

To stop the bleeding on a broken toenail, you may pack the nail with cornstarch, or flour. You or your veterinarian may need to trim the rest of the nail off to prevent further pain or bleeding.
Occasionally a nail that breaks off very close to the nail bed may create an infection in the toe that will require antibiotic treatment, so watch for any limping that persists longer than two days.
